Ingredients:
- 1 block of firm tofu
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Cooking spray or oil spray
- For the Spicy Peanut Sauce:
- 1/4 cup natural peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce (adjust to taste)
- 2 tablespoons warm water (more if needed)
- Optional toppings: chopped peanuts, sesame seeds, green onions
Instructions:
1. Press the tofu: Remove the tofu from the package, drain the liquid, and gently press the tofu block between paper towels or a clean kitchen towel to remove excess moisture. Leave it pressed for about 15 minutes.
2. Prepare the tofu: Cut the pressed tofu into bite-sized cubes.
3. In a bowl, mix the cornstarch, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Toss the tofu cubes in the cornstarch mixture until coated evenly.
4. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
5. Lightly grease the air fryer basket with cooking spray or oil spray to prevent sticking.
6. Place the coated tofu cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You may need to cook them in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
7. Air fry the tofu for 15-20 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until they become crispy and golden brown.
8. While the tofu is cooking, prepare the spicy peanut sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together the peanut butter, soy sauce, maple syrup or honey, rice vinegar, sriracha sauce, and warm water until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more warm water if needed.
9. Once the tofu is done, remove it from the air fryer and let it cool for a few minutes.
10. Serve the crispy tofu with the spicy peanut sauce on the side. You can also drizzle the sauce over the tofu and sprinkle with chopped peanuts, sesame seeds, or green onions for added flavor and garnish.
