Paneer tikka is a popular Indian appetizer made with marinated paneer (Indian cottage cheese) and grilled to perfection. It's a flavorful and delicious dish that can be enjoyed on its own or served with chutney. Here's a simple recipe to make paneer tikka at home:
Ingredients:
- 250 grams paneer, cut into cubes
- 1 medium-sized onion, cut into squares
- 1 medium-sized capsicum (bell pepper), cut into squares
- 1 cup yogurt (curd)
- 2 tablespoons besan (gram flour)
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Wooden skewers (soaked in water for 30 minutes)
For garnish:
- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
- Chaat masala (optional)
- Lemon wedges
Instructions:
1. In a large mixing bowl, add yogurt, besan, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, lemon juice, and salt. Mix everything well to make a smooth marinade.
2. Add paneer cubes, onion squares, and capsicum squares to the marinade. Gently coat the paneer and vegetables with the marinade, ensuring they are well covered. Allow it to marinate for at least 30 minutes. You can also refrigerate it for a few hours or overnight for more intense flavors.
3. Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat. If using an oven, preheat it to 200°C (400°F). If using a grill, make sure it's hot and well-oiled.
4. Thread the marinated paneer, onions, and capsicum alternately onto the wooden skewers. Repeat until all the paneer and vegetables are used.
5. Brush some oil on the skewers to prevent sticking and place them on the preheated grill or oven rack. If using an oven, place the skewers on a baking tray lined with aluminum foil.
6. Grill or bake the skewers for about 10-12 minutes, turning them occasionally, until the paneer and vegetables are lightly charred and cooked through.
7. Once done, remove the skewers from the grill or oven and let them cool slightly. Sprinkle some chaat masala (optional) and freshly chopped coriander leaves on top.
8. Serve paneer tikka hot with mint chutney, tamarind chutney, or tomato ketchup. You can also squeeze some lemon juice over the tikka for added tanginess.
Enjoy your homemade paneer tikka as a delicious appetizer or as part of a main course......
